I’ve been reading The Case for Falling in Love by Mari Ruti.  It offers alternative advice on dating, relationships and gender roles. Here is a list of the main ideas of the book:

Relax the urge to conquer the inherent unruliness of love.

You can’t control what happens, but you can control how you respond to what happens.

Self-possession is knowing you have something precious to offer someone who will honor and respect you.

Accept love that is freely given.

Don’t pursue a romantic interest without explicit encouragement.

Love is made of contradictions and sudden reversals.

Stay open to love while being able to let go if and when necessary.

Love generously even when you have no guarantee how things will unfold.

Love wants what is best for another even when it means not being part of that best.
